CHARM CITY (Baltimore, MD) born + raised, Tate Kobang (KING OF BALTIMORE AND NIGGAZ GIRLS) may be a new name to you...BUT he is no stranger to the music industry. Kobang has been writing music since he was 11 years old.  His musical influences and inspirations are rooted in his family upbringing + Baltimore living. Kobang has been pumping out hits since 2011 but "recently" gained public notoriety from his 2015 Smash Single "BANK ROLLS” The song was originally performed by Baltimore Rapper Tim Trees in 2011.

"I released it to put some good feeling back into the city…foreal, foreal and what better way to do that than to make people dance"

Tate intentionally released Bank Rolls the same day Baltimore's own, Freddie Gray, was pronounced dead as result of excessive force during a routine arrest by Baltimore Police.  His goal was to alleviate some of the civil unrest and provide a mental + musical escape for the grieving citizens of Baltimore. Kobang has since dropped an extensive playlist of club bangers, dance tracks and features including: Uber Everywhere, Dis Side, O My, What I Mean, Chirp Chirp, Drip From My Walk, Yeah, Reason…to name a select few.  Mixtapes include Since We’re Here (2016) + Lord Of Da Trenches (2016) + Silent Waves (2017).

"He's doing what I wanted to do all my life.  He's a platform for everybody"

 -Nana

Kobangs grandmama, Nana, is a gospel singer at heart.  She adamantly supports his musical career. Nana encourages Kobang to keep a strong hold to his family grounding always remembering his focus behind the music, elevating the great city of Baltimore.

Tate Kobang is undoubtedly amongst CREATIVES WHO YOU SHOULD KNOW.  Your Welcome.

O AUBREY...O MEEK MILLY, CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?

First, let me say thank you to Aubrey and Meek Milly from Philly for bringing me out of a "creative depression”.   I've been overwhelmed with trying to comprehend the death Sandra Bland, burning churches, deporting “foreigners” and everything else happening in AmeriKKK.

Back to Aubrey and Meek.

Throughout the history of Rap, rappers have been shamed, denounced and dismissed for reciting rhymes via ghostwriters.  Meek Mill has called Drake out to be one of these rappers.

Here are the factuals.  When Meek Mill’s recent album dropped, Drake did not “retweet” or promote his release, prompting Meek Mill to expose Drake, claiming he collaborates with ghostwriters.  Shortly after, Funk Master Flex responded with the release of 10 Bands, off Drake’s recent album, If Your Reading This Its Too Late, as performed by Drake’s “alleged” ghostwriter Quentin Miller.  This production sounds quite similar to the “original” (Drake) production we can all agree. (If you haven’t heard it just Google Quentin Miller “10 Bands”).  Drake and Meek Mill’s fans have clapped back with mixed expressions attacking, defending and dismissing Meek’s allegations.  Responses extended to the Canadian City Councilor, Norm Kelly banning Meek Mill from Toronto via tweet!  (Though The Pink Print Tour will be in town tonight).  It has been several days since Meek Mill “exposed” Drake and Drake responded, or didn’t respond via social media…

It gets deeper.

Last night, Drake released “Back to Back” directly but indirectly dissing Meek Mill, implying Meek Mill is touring simply on the strength of girlfriend Nicki Minaj, that Meek has been “wifed” by Nicki and questioning Meek Mill and his non-responsiveness to Drakes first diss “Charged Up”.

But is Meek upset with Drake because he doesn’t write his own lyrics or is there an underlying issue we don’t know about?

Remember, last year Meek was disgruntled and went off on lablemate Wale for not retweeting his album release.  At the end of the day, Drake is so successful that “exposure” of this magnitude will probably mean nothing but that Drake has ghostwriters.  This will deduct a fraction of whatever small amount of street credibility Aubrey has now, simple as that.  Meek Mill is a street battle rapper from Philly, so I can empathize with his discontent for Drake…but all Drake wants to do is ride through the 6 with his woes.

I like Wale.

I'm no DC Naitive but I've been here long enough to hear several tales about the Grammy Award winner + "Savior of the DMV".  Olubowale, more commonly known as Wale, attended my soon to be Alma Mata, Bowie State University and was made most popular to me with his chart topping hit singles “Nike Boots” + “Pretty Girls”.

I recently got a chance to listen to his latest album, The Album About Nothing, and I must say it’s pretty good.  It’s like waiting in the longest line at a theme park but with good friends.  It doesn't even matter how much time you spent in line by the time you get to the front, the good vibes keep you straight coasting.

Let’s not forget the witty innuendos from the rappers favorite Television Show, Seinfeld …I’m interested in having a pow-wow about the significance of Wale’s musical references + song titles in relation to the show.  Whoever wants to school me, hit me up!
